Triumph Thruxton 400 Set to Debut in India: Retro Cafe Racer Promises Striking Looks, Feature-Rich Package, and Competitive Pricing

Triumph THRUXTON 400

Triumph Motorcycles is gearing up to unveil the all-new Thruxton 400 in India on August 6, 2025, further expanding its popular 400cc motorcycle lineup. Recent images of the bike, still camouflaged, have surfaced online as it begins arriving at dealership stockyards nationwide. The launch of the Triumph Thruxton 400 marks a strategic extension of Triumph’s 400cc portfolio—which already features notable models such as the Speed 400, Scrambler 400X, Speed T4, and the recently introduced Scrambler 400XC.

The standout feature of the Triumph Thruxton 400 is its distinctive half-fairing, a design cue reminiscent of the bigger Thruxton models from the British marque. Additional highlights include sporty clip-on handlebars complemented by bar-end mirrors. At the rear, the café racer receives a pillion seat and a color-tuned rear cowl—reportedly detachable for versatility. These elements help the Thruxton 400 fully embrace its café racer DNA, retaining the compact proportions typical of the 400cc Triumph platform.

Multiple Striking Color Schemes

Spy images captured during promotional shoots have revealed the Triumph Thruxton 400 in an elegant red-and-silver two-tone livery, while recent leaks indicate the availability of a vibrant yellow-and-silver option as well. It is believed that Triumph will offer a broader palette of paint finishes to appeal to varied tastes and further boost the bike’s presence in showrooms.

Familiar Components, Proven Performance

While the Triumph Thruxton 400 showcases fresh styling, its mechanical DNA is closely shared with the rest of Triumph’s 400cc range. The chassis, suspension setup, exhaust system, taillamp, switchgear, side panels, grab rail, and braking arrangement mirror those found on the Speed 400. The semi-digital instrument cluster, too, remains unchanged. Under the tank, the Thruxton 400 is powered by Triumph’s 398cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine—delivering an identical 39.5bhp and 37.5Nm of torque as its siblings. This engine is paired with a six-speed gearbox and a standard slipper-and-assist clutch, ensuring slick shifts and a refined riding experience. Slight adjustments to the gear ratios are anticipated to better match the café racer’s sporty posture and character.

Enthusiasts can expect the price of the Triumph Thruxton 400 to start around Rs 2.75 lakh (ex-showroom), establishing it as the premium offering in Triumph’s 400cc series. This positions it above the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X, which are priced at Rs 2.40 lakh and Rs 2.65 lakh (both ex-showroom), respectively.

Café Racer With A Neo-Retro Appeal

All visual cues point to the Triumph Thruxton 400 drawing heavy inspiration from the flagship Thruxton 1200—especially at the front, which features a fighter-jet-inspired fairing that adds visual weight to the design. The round headlamp, housed within an elaborate apron, is another classic touch. As expected from a true café racer, the low-slung clip-on handlebars and slightly rear-set footpegs ensure an aggressive, sporty riding position. Complementing the look are design details such as a teardrop-shaped fuel tank, a ribbed single seat, upswept exhaust, tidy taillamp assembly, and a one-piece grab rail—all borrowed from other models in the 400cc family.

Underneath, the Thruxton 400 is set to retain the platform’s hardware, including a black inverted front fork, a rear monoshock, and hydraulic disc brakes on both ends with dual-channel ABS. Test prototypes overseas ran on 17-inch alloy wheels featuring Pirelli Rosso tyres, but the India-spec model is expected to adopt affordable locally-made rubber from brands like MRF or Apollo to keep pricing competitive.

Unique Positioning in the Market

With its old-school, semi-faired, café racer silhouette, the Triumph Thruxton 400 faces little to no direct competition in the Indian market. It stands out as the only neo-retro offering of its kind, combining classic British aesthetics with the robust engineering of Triumph’s trusted 400cc platform. As units begin arriving in showrooms and excitement builds, the Triumph Thruxton 400 is ready to carve a stylish niche for itself among motorcycle enthusiasts who crave both heritage and modern-day rideability.
